For more than 40 years, the polar Bear Express has been providing guests with an opportunity to connect with Canadian history, aboriginal culture and the landscapes of the north. This old fashioned train excursion travels 186 miles, between Cochrane and Moosonee, Ontario. You are invited to sit back and to enjoy the relaxing 4 hour train ride in one of our climate control passenger cars. Take in the scenic view from our popular dome car which features windows that round up towards the ceiling.




Day 1 – Toronto or Huntsville / Cochrane
Departure from Toronto or Huntsville in the morning. The arrival in Cochrane is scheduled at 19h25.

Day 2 – Cochrane / Moosonee
Climb aboard the polar Bear express that will lead you to Moosonee, Ontario’s only salt-water port. You’ll then have time at leisure in the afternoon. Overnight in Moosonee (Breakfast included)

Day 3 – Moosonee
Return towards Cochrane in late afternoon. While traveling, you will enjoy a dinner in the dinning car. (Dinner included)

Day 4 – Moosonee / Cochrane
Today, you will begin with a guided visit of Cochrane. You will have the chance to visit the largest native art gallery in Ontario: the Ehkwateh Art Galery. For lunch, you experience a traditional aboriginal meal. In the afternoon, you will visit a popular attractions: the Polar Bear Habitat, a rescue and rehabilitation facility. Visitors can view the polar bears in their natural environmnent. You can even choose to swim alongside the bears in a separate wading pool adjacent to the bear pool! After visiting the polar bears, you will stroll down memory lane at the Heritage Village, a beautiful re-creation of Cochrane in the early 1900’s. (Breakfast and Lunch included)

Day 5 – Cochrane / Huntsville or Toronto
The train will take you back to southern Ontario. Departure is at 8h00 (Breakfast included)
