| For over a century, adventurers have been lured by the unconquered peaks and untouched wilderness of the Purcell and Selkirk Mountains, the birthplace of North American mountaineering. In the early 1900s, the area was frequented by wealthy tourists who were scaling unnamed peaks by day and enjoying sublime comfort by night. When the lodge was built in the 80’s, the aim was to rekindle this tradition of providing elegant accommodation for discerning wilderness travelers. The location is indeed far from any roads and is surrounded by rolling alpine meadows, towering summits and tumbling glaciers. The result is a remarquable example of a truly sustainable alpine retreat, with all the amenities of a classic resort (gourmet food, sauna, luxury furnitures, etc. |
Days 1 to 3 or 4 - Golden
Guests are flown (15 minutes) into the lodge by helicopter from Golden. A magical haven of peace, the lodge sets the standard for ecologically sensitive development. Electricity is generated from a mountain stream, only a limited number of people are permitted to visit each year, and biodegradable amenities help to protect the pure mountain drinking water. Our guest can explore this expansive landscape on foot. Our wide variety of trails can accommodate the spirit, curiosity and fitness level of every guest, whether a rambler or a vigorous hiker. Our dining room has received rave reviews from Gourmet Magazine, and our chef creates-watering dishes from organic ingredients and local produce. With thousands of acres to explore, and a cozy lodge to return to each evening, your vacation can be as active or as restful as you like.
